A Cargolux aircraft had a lucky escape on Saturday when the cargo jet had to abort a landing after one of its engines hit the runway.
The aircraft, which was arriving from Dubai at 18:30 on Saturday, first touched down with its landing gear but then shifted to its left, causing one of its engines to hit the tarmac, a video uploaded to Twitter on Sunday showed. The pilot then aborted the landing attempt, the video showed.
Cargolux, which is majority-owned by the Luxembourg state, confirmed the incident in a press release on Sunday.
“A Cargolux aircraft was involved in an incident during landing at Findel Airport on Saturday evening. The pilots aborted their first attempt to land and performed a go-around. On the second attempt they landed safely. There were no injuries to the crew or anyone on the ground”, the freight carrier said.
“The aircraft suffered some damage as a result of the aborted first landing attempt and remains grounded until all inspections and necessary repairs have been completed,” the release said.
Cargolux reported the incident to the national civil aviation authority and launched an internal investigation, the company said.
